Ecodesign of Transformers in European Union

Since 1.7.2021 the new ECODESIGN rules (Tier 2 or ECODESIGN 2) are valid according to COMMISSION REGULATION (EU) 2019/1783.

The first phase of Ecodesign (Tier 1) valid from 1.7.2015 to 30.6.2021 implemented the 20-20-20 strategy.

  • 20% reduction of greenhouse gas emissions
  • 20% higher energy efficiency
  • 20% of total energy generated from renewable

The reasons for the Ecodesign strategy have been obvious because transformer losses represent around 2.5% of EU energy consumption. Using more energy-efficient transformers should lead to energy savings of an estimated 16 TWh per year after 2020. This is equivalent to 3.7 million tons less of CO2 being emitted each year, or half of Denmark’s total annual electricity consumption (32 TWh). These energy savings represent a reduction of 3,7 Mt emissions of CO2

Since 1.7.2021 The new phase of Ecodesign (Tier 2 or Ecodesign 2) continues with established trends and aims to losses reduction even more to start with the decarbonization of the continent.

BEZ Transformátory a.s., as an important regional manufacturer, appreciate the activity and proudly introduce energy class AA0Ak liquid-filled and epoxy resin distribution transformers, developed and manufactured in conformity with the latest ECODESIGN 2 standards providing our customers:

  • Lower energy consumption
  • Decreasing CO2 emissions
  • Operating costs reduction

Do not hesitate to contact your sales representative for the non-binding calculation of savings of your operating costs.
